His approach is similar to the ‘cinema pour l’oreille’ (cinema for the ear) and in turn would like to ‘donner à voir’ (lead to seeing) by means of sound. Being immersed in his sonic environment offers an absolutely visceral and cerebral experience at once.

Novi_sad explores sound as sensation pulling apart its physical properties to reveal its relationship with human perception. Some of his projects are primarily focused in architectural acoustics and the relationship between architecture and sound, when other projects are based on various methods of audio analysis in extremely unique recordings and the use of quantitative and numerical data from different sources.

His vertiginous structures destruct and reconstruct architectonic, organic and sentimental abstractions with precision and hypnotic beauty, which functions as a gateway onto eternity.  His music has been described as ‘a complete surrendering of the senses’. Novi_sad’s albums found plenty of receptive ears, receiving glowing reviews in music media around the world. Reisen til WOMOON er en dykking ned i refleksjoner over kjønnsroller, kultur og væremåte. Den ses som et fritt fall hvor bunaden og burkaen er gravitasjonspunktet og piratkopieringen av reisens inntrykk skjer gjennom YouTube-, Google- og Wikipedia-generasjonens øyne og ører. Med en uforskammet sjangermiksing utfordres narrativ resirkulasjon og den stereotype påvirkningen av vår selvforståelse.

Nordisk mytologi flettes sammen med orientalsk mystisisme i en performativ bearbeidelse hvor karaoke og kveding er likestilt i et univers hvor øynene titter gjennom briller farget av et japansk Disneyworld. Kampen om buksene er igang. Du vet godt hva jeg er sur for. Jeg kaster bort min umulige klesdrakt og er fri! Fri!! Hva betyr det å kle seg på? Hva betyr det å kle seg av?

“Så, så, mor” sagde Mary Ann. “Jeg skal nok finde min søster, om jeg så skal bruge resten af mit liv til at søge efter hende”

Katrina del Mar arbejdede i to år med Nan Goldin og er desuden kendt for sine portrætter af musikere, bl.a Courtney Love. Hendes dokumentarfilmserier om New Yorks kvindelige biker miljø har vundet en række priser.

Alice Maude-Roxby, som starter foredraget, er en britisk kunstner. Hun var kurator i Tate Liverpools 2003 udstilling, ”Art, Lies and Videotape: Exposing Performance.” Hendes nuværende projekt er en samarbejde med den japanske kunstner Yoshiko Shimada, som også vil være til stede. Følgende personer vil være tilstede for at tale om deres erfaringer med scenekunst: Katrina del Mar (US), Alice Maude-Roxby (eng), Yoshiko Shimada (Jap); desuden kan man se et film interview med Dona Ann McAdams (US).

Forelæsningen bliver en enestående mulighed for at høre virkeligheden bag disse legendariske billeder, om en tid og dens hovedpersoner. Kunstnere snakker om hvordan man fanger et flydende øjeblik: hvordan en foto som dokumentation kan være mere vigtigt end forestillingen selv.

For the first time ever in Scandinavia, two prominent American women photographers, Dona Ann McAdams and Katrina del Mar, will be presenting an exhibition from their joint archives of their time documenting the brutal underground world of New York City’s performance artists during the politically unstable period 1988-2000.

In the archives of these two photographers, we can see an era that has gone, when live art as we know it today was just beginning. An era where the fear of AIDS brought massive artistic censorship and a context in which blood became a political, incendiary material.

 The exhibition’s timeline is the period when live art, as we know it today, was first created. Whereas previous incarnations had been rooted in conceptual art and confined to elitist gallery spaces, during the late 1980s a new kind of performer was born.

 He or she lived in abandoned warehouses in the wrong part of town, in smoky basements and crowded bars. Here, nothing was sanitized or safe. Uneducated, natural exhibitionists and artists cut open their insides – literally as well as figuratively – in their need to find an outlet for their rage and their expression.

Among the images shown is Adams’ powerful image of Karen Finley performing her show ‘The Constant State of Desire’, an image that was to become crucial in the case of the NEA four in 1990, when funding to four American performance artists was cut by the National Endowment of the Arts due to ‘standards of decency’, thus bringing issues of artistic censorship to the fore.

Through slide projections, digital imagery, recorded accounts, films and posters, this turbulent chapter in performance art history is reviewed and reconsidered. Do we, here in Copenhagen in 2012, take artistic freedom too much for granted?

The recipient of a number of awards, Dona Ann McAdams has exhibited at New York’s MoMa and the Whitney Museum of Art. Her published works include ‘Caught in the Act’ (1996, Aperture), a collection of photos of performance artists taken during her stint at unofficial photographer at live art venue PS122 in New York.

A former studio manager for Nan Goldin, Katrina del Mar is also known for her portraits of musicians and rock stars and for her documentary series on the girl gangs of New York, that has won her numerous prizes as well as comparisons to avant-garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger.

Alice Maude-Roxby introduces the artists talk with a broad look at the relationship between photography and live art. A British artist and critical theorist, she was the curator of the Tate Liverpool’s 2003 exhibition, ‘Art, Lies and Videotape: Exposing Performance.’ Her latest project is a collaboration with Tokyo artist Yoshiko Shimada, who will also be present to discuss similar movements in post-war Japan.

 The talk is a once-only chance to hear the reality behind these almost legendary photos of an era and its protagonists: to learn the process behind them and the difficulties inherent in catching a fleeting moment, in capturing a live event outside of the studio. Does the photograph become a more important document of an artistic event than the happening itself?

For then on the exhibition will be open daily until Monday, January 23 from 11-15. Entrance is free.
