OPEN CALL: COPENHAUSTIN RESIDENCY

CopenhAustin is an annual arts residency exchange program of one queer performance artist/organizer based in Texas and one queer performance artist/organizer based in Denmark. The purpose of this residency program is to support artistic development, facilitate cultural exchange, and encourage environmental sustainability practices in the larger arts community. A unique dimension of the call is a commitment to the intersection of LGBTQIA+ issues and environmental sustainability practices. Residents are given the time, space, freedom, and financial support to concentrate on developing their work. This residency program is funded and has a fixed duration of one month. In the inaugural year of the CopenhAustin, 2024, the selected residency artists made a total of eight public appearances, four in Denmark and four in Texas. Artists are expected to contribute to public programming, including but not limited to, performances, workshops, and panel discussions.
CopenhAustin is a collaborative program organized by Unlisted Projects, Warehouse9, and The Museum of Human Achievement.

Join us to learn about the open call and application process for Queer Practice: Open Call – an opportunity which primary focus is on supporting artistic practice through a research & development framework created by Warehouse9 and HIMHERANDIT Productions, and their festivals, which includes a residency period in Aarhus in collaboration with Åbne Scene Godsbanen.

OPEN CALL: QUEER PRACTICE

HIMHERANDIT Productions (Aarhus) and Warehouse9 (Copenhagen) are back with a second round of residency opportunities for queer performance practice in Denmark. Both organisations have a key interest in ensuring queer artists’ practice is cared for and represented in the greater performing arts landscape in Denmark. This open call will offer an opportunity to support practice between Aarhus and Copenhagen over a period of 12 months. The residency’s primary focus is on supporting practice through a research & development framework created by the organisations and their festivals, which includes a residency period in Aarhus in collaboration with Åbne Scene, peer-to-peer mentorship, ongoing dialogue and participation in the organisations festival frameworks in the spring of 2026.
The open call offers up to 4 weeks residency in Aarhus to 1 professional queer artist within the performing arts, living and working in Denmark.

WHAT WE CAN PROVIDE DURING THE RESIDENCY
- Residency fee of 20.000 DKK (10.000 DKK per residency period)
- 11 days access to Åbne Scene in Aarhus in April 2025, including 40 hours of tech
31/3-10/4 – (with accommodation from 30/3-11/4) - 11 days access to Åbne Scene in Aarhus in October 2025, including 40 hours of tech
10/11-20/11 – (with accommodation from 9/11-21/11) - Material budget of 6000 DKK
- If needed, local transport to/from Aarhus in Denmark
The open call also offers opportunities for access to Warehouse9’s workshop space in Copenhagen in 2025 and work-sharing during the IPAF festival in Copenhagen (19-22 March 2026) and spring 2026 in Aarhus within a GenderHouse Festival frame.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER DURING OUR FESTIVALS
- Work-sharing within an IPAF Festival and GenderHouse Festival Frame
- Separate fee for work-sharing (TBA with festivals)
- If needed, accommodation during festivals in spring 2026
- If needed, local transport in Denmark to the respective festivals
- Access to the festivals overall artistic programme and networking opportunities
ARTISTS WILL BE SUPPORTED IN THE CREATION OF WORK WITH ACCESS TO
- Production and organizational support with their project
- Access to facilities, tools and staff support for technical needs
- 1:1 mentorship with host organizations
- Opportunity to present work created during residency in Aarhus at Aabne Scene
- Facilitated introductions and community gatherings
- Visibility and marketing support

- June 2026: Celebration and wrapping-up meeting.
Access to Warehouse9’s workshop space in Copenhagen is possible as an additional element to this call.

This international residency opportunity is intended for queer artists working within live performance and designed to support network building, the creation and sharing of new work in an international context. Residents are given the time, space, freedom and financial support to concentrate upon the development of their own work. This residency programme is funded and has a fixed duration of one month. This residency opportunity will be awarded following an open call and application process. Residency artists will be selected in partnership with participating organizations and host a public sharing of work created during their residency at both their host and home organization.
The purpose of this residency programme is to support artistic development and facilitate cultural exchange, and long-term connections between artists, organizations and the greater communities of Texas and Denmark. A unique dimension of the call is a commitment to the intersection of LGBTQIA+ issues and environmental sustainability practices.
