Somewhere between a hospital\, a morgue\, and a BDSM dungeon where headless gimps serve drinks whilst being deep throated by ghosts\, serpents emerging from cracks in the floor\, and the dead dance on their own graves. Welcome to the strange world of Martin O’Brien. Martin will be displaying elements of his process\, including fragments of performance\, scores\, videos\, images\, objects\, and detritus.\nMartin O’Brien is currently in residence developing his new performance\, What the Serpent Told Me in the Misty Gloom. He has shown work throughout the UK; Europe; USA; and Canada\, and is well known for his solo performances and collaborations with the legendary LA artist and dominatrix Sheree Rose. His most recent works were at Tate Britain in 2020\, the ICA (London) in 2021\, and as Writer in Residence at Whitechapel Gallery in 2023. He is winner of the Philip Leverhulme Prize for Visual and Performing Arts 2022. Martin has cystic fibrosis and all of his work and writing draws upon this experience. His work has been featured on BBC radio and Sky Arts television\, and as a double page spread in The Guardian. He is currently senior lecturer in Live Art\, and head of department of Performance\, at Queen Mary University of London.\n\n\n\nDuring his residency at Warehouse9\, Martin will be working on a new performance What the Serpent Told Me in the Misty Gloom. DESCRIPTION:Join Martin O’Brien as he shares his practice at the Monday Salon at Det Lilla Rum on Monday 18th August.\nMartin will share some thoughts emerging out of his art work. No need to RSVP\, just turn up! \nKræsyndikatet (The Syndicate of Creatures) is built around a core of three artists / curators / researchers and art theorists\, and we collaborate with a wide variety of professionals. Kræsyndikatet consists of visual artist and art theorist Nanna Gro Henningsen\, human ecologist and performer Michelle Appelros\, and visual artist and curator Signe Vad. \nWe create exhibitions\, events\, workshops\, and interventionist projects on topics related to our main focus: rethinking how we inhabit this planet. And everyone else’s too? \nHappy Unbirthday! is a joyful celebration where we all join the party – wearing birthday hats\, singing Happy Birthday\, sharing our wishes\, and taking turns smashing a giant piñata. No one’s the center of attention – and somehow\, everyone is. \nAt the heart of this playful performance by American artist Victoria is a handmade piñata\, created from recycled materials and filled with messages from previous wNorkshops: memories\, dreams\, and notes waiting to be passed on. Crack it open and take a message with you – a birthday gift from a stranger. \nVictoria created Happy Unbirthday! in the wake of personal grief and rising anxiety around aging and mortality. Birthdays mark time – moments to pause\, reflect\, wish\, and gather. In Mexican culture\, the piñata is central to these rituals\, fostering communal participation and emotional release. By bridging Mexican\, American\, and Danish traditions\, the work becomes a space for cultural exchange\, celebration\, and (queer) joy. \nVictoria is an identity-based artist working across video\, performance\, sound\, sculpture\, and installation. Through ​video and ​​     ​ performance\, Victoria explores their Queer\, non-binary identity by experimenting with makeup\, costumes\, and wigs to reimagine the self and invent new ways of being. \nVictoria is an artist-in-residence as part of Warehouse9\, ​The ​Museum of Human Achievement and \nUnlisted Projects international residency exchange initiative called CopenhAustin.

SUMMARY:Go Batty for Summer Solstice!
DESCRIPTION:Bring your bat mask or finest solstice clothing!\nTogether\, we celebrate our longest day followed by our shortest night with a walk around Damhussøen while we marvel at one of the most fascinating nocturnal creatures\, the bats. \nPerformance artist and bat ambassador\, Linh Le invites you for a performative walk around Damhussøen where we will be attentive to the nocturnal bat species. Linh will make a few stops during the walk and share methods of attentiveness and calm breathing and movement exercises. Together\, we will explore the transition from light to darkness. \nWho can participate? \nAll ages and capabilities. We do ask that children are accompanied by an carer.\ncapacity will be set at 20 participants. Participation is free. First come\, First serve basis. \nMeeting place:\nDamhuskanten café: link to map\nPlease arrive 10 minutes before the event start time. \nAccess Information:\nThe walk is a total of 3\,6 km. \nPublic toilets are located on the lake route. The walking route surface is mostly even consisting of asphalt and shorter sections are packed with gravel. \nLanguage:\nEnglish or Danish\, depending on the needs of the group. \nAbout the Artist:\nPerformance artist and ambassador of brown long-eared bat\, Linh Le promotes knowledge of bats through sensory experiences and has developed performative workshops since she had the opportunity to be an artist-in-residency in Austin\, Texas through Warehouse9’s and MoHA’s UnlistedProjects residency program. SUMMARY:Becoming Bats: Mask Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to build a mask!  \nWe will build a mask of a bat species and pay tribute to the bats and their fight for survival in our time of biodiversity crisis. \n  \nAbout the workshop: \nThe mask workshops are divided into two parts: 1) Building the mask. Then it needs to dry. 2) Painting the mask. \nIf you are only able to participate the first day\, you can bring the mask with you and paint it at home. \nREMEMBER TO BRING A BIKE HELMET. We will use it as a base to build the mask. \nALL OTHER MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED. He has a BA in Theatre and Performance Studies from Copenhagen University and is furthermore educated at Juste Debout School in Paris\, France and Hotstepper Studio in Copenhagen\, Denmark. \nBeck is investigating queer- and transpolitical aesthetics as both an explicit and implicit part of his praxis. He works in a broad field of theatre and performance\, but his own original work derives from building concepts up around movement and is often related to personal experiences. \nBeck is a member of Dance Cooperative – a platform and workspace for intersectional feminist and artistic choreographic practices in Copenhagen. \n\nAnna Näsström is a choreographer and danceartist based in Malmö. Her artistic practice unfolds at the intersection of dance\, technology\, and ethnography – navigating different contexts\, movement languages and multimedia or sensory projects. She has a foundation in dance and performance from the University of the Arts in Stockholm and Peridance and BDC in New York. \nHer choreographic work is informed by a range of influences including social dance\, club culture\, street dance\, ballroom\, and contemporary dance. This shapes her creative processes\, which often take on a multidisciplinary character with a norm-critical lens. DESCRIPTION:Queer Practice Residency\nArtist in residence: Charlie Laban Trier\nProject: Surfacing HypoKrisia \nFor the residencies I’m bringing along my performance-project: Surfacing Hypokrisia. I’m researching ways to invoke HypoKrisia through performative efforts\, and asks what we might learn from her presence?\nHypoKrisia is a speculative mythological figure of my own fabulation\, imagined as the forgotten little-sister of Tiresias\, the mythical Greek blind prophet. Both HypoKrisia and Tiresias could be described as trans-figures. But while Tiresias’ transitions are seen as “complete”\, HypoKrisia resists the process of full becoming\, choosing a performative state of “half un-done.” I suggest that HypoKrisia was intentionally written out of “his”tory because her qualities and teachings were deemed unworthy or dangerous. \nI’m developing a practice that brings together HypoKrisia and myself in a complicated partnership. I’m attempting to create cracks in “the surface”\, so that she can push her way through\, parts of her almost appearing. I’m envisioning a dance-duet between us\, or a momentarily total take-over of my body. \nThe research takes a curious look at the epistemological trajectory from hypokrite (ancient Greek word for actor) to hypocritical. Together we set out to embrace “hypocrisy” and follow the laws of the trickster. Our tool-box is filled with pretending\, contradictory\, disagreement\, mimicry and faking. \nGet your ticket for the free open worksharing here \nAbout  \nCharlie Laban Trier (he\, him)\, born 1987 in Copenhagen\, is a performing artist who operates in a cross-polination between disciplines\, but chooses to situate his practice deep within the realm of dance. Dance is the primary lens – it’s the mode/mood and how he thinks and navigates materiality. The materiality appears as bottom-barrel yells turned into songs\, text-sampling\, endlessly becoming costume\, carrying/caring for screens\, extreme sculptural headbanging and more. He considers research materials as teachers\, striving to listen to what they want to reveal. He sees dance as inherently messy\, slippery and emergent – a form of knowledge that resists legibility. \nLiving as a transperson\, is further a big teacher in his thinking/approach to work. Charlie thinks of transness\, like dance\, as a technology that helps him complicate material. It allows for embodying multiple images\, seducing viewers\, and shifting fluidly between forms. \nHe graduated with a BA in choreography from SNDO (AHK\, amsterdam) in 2018. \nHe’s a member of Jacuzzi – an artist-run space in Amsterdam where dance/performance and other time-based medias swim together – collectively organizing public events and workshops. \n  \nPartners \nA new residency collaboration connects artists between Aarhus and Copenhagen\, fostering creative growth\, collaboration\, and safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ creatives. \nHIMHERANDIT\, Warehouse9\, Åbne Scene\, IPAF\, and The Genderhouse Queer Arts Festival have launched a collaborative residency program connecting performing artists between Aarhus and Copenhagen. Dansehallerne is a national center for dance and choreography. \nABOUT THE ARTIST \n\nGiorgia Ohanesian Nardin is an Italian artist of Armenian descent working in the contexts of dance and live performance. Trained in dance\, their work exists in the shape of movement video text choreography sound gatherings and deals with the relationship between dancing\, divination and writing; with geography and the opposite of belonging; with a fetish for language\, its politics and its many frictions. They began making work in 2010 in collaboration with artists Marco D’Agostin and Francesca Foscarini\, with whom they founded Associazione Culturale VAN (2014). Since 2018\, Giorgia periodically holds Pleasure Body\, a space for facilitating practices and conversations associated with pleasure and rest\, questioning the narrations around labors of care and hosting critical thinking around words like well-being\, health\, healing\, recovery. Pleasure Body is currently touring extensively\, being held in a variety of situations\, from cultural institutions to queer occupied spaces. Giorgia was invited to hold Pleasure Body at\, amongst others: Harvard University in the context of Chiasmi – Queering Italian Studies\, Siobhan Davies Studios\, Saison Foundation Tokyo\, Short Theatre Roma\, Gropius Bau\, Sophiensaele. In 2020 they created Գիշեր | gisher\, a multimedia piece that focuses on their experience as a diasporic Armenian. The work has been selected for LIFT Concept Touring and is currently on tour. In 2022-23\, Giorgia’s work is produced and supported by VIERNULVIER; they are also a selected artist for Breaking the Spell\, research project that deals with ethics of care and feminist discourses in artmaking. As an independent writer and poet\, Giorgia’s work has been included in L’Ano Solare – a year long programme of sex and self display (axis axis editions)\, curated by Il Colorificio. They hold an ongoing writing/thinking practice with London – based artist Jamila Johnson-Small\, with whom they have curated several events that focus on holding/facilitating/questioning space as/for subaltern subjectivities in institutional contexts. Trained in dance\, their work exists in the shape of movement video text choreography sound gatherings and deals with the relationship between dancing\, divination and writing; with geography and the opposite of belonging; with a fetish for language\, its politics and its many frictions. They began making work in 2010 in collaboration with artists Marco D’Agostin and Francesca Foscarini\, with whom they founded Associazione Culturale VAN (2014). Since 2018\, Giorgia periodically holds Pleasure Body\, a space for facilitating practices and conversations associated with pleasure and rest\, questioning the narrations around labors of care and hosting critical thinking around words like well-being\, health\, healing\, recovery. Pleasure Body is currently touring extensively\, being held in a variety of situations\, from cultural institutions to queer occupied spaces. Giorgia was invited to hold Pleasure Body at\, amongst others: Harvard University in the context of Chiasmi – Queering Italian Studies\, Siobhan Davies Studios\, Saison Foundation Tokyo\, Short Theatre Roma\, Gropius Bau\, Sophiensaele. In 2020 they created Գիշեր | gisher\, a multimedia piece that focuses on their experience as a diasporic Armenian. The work has been selected for LIFT Concept Touring and is currently on tour. In 2022-23\, Giorgia’s work is produced and supported by VIERNULVIER; they are also a selected artist for Breaking the Spell\, research project that deals with ethics of care and feminist discourses in artmaking. As an independent writer and poet\, Giorgia’s work has been included in L’Ano Solare – a year long programme of sex and self display (axis axis editions)\, curated by Il Colorificio. They hold an ongoing writing/thinking practice with London – based artist Jamila Johnson-Small\, with whom they have curated several events that focus on holding/facilitating/questioning space as/for subaltern subjectivities in institutional contexts. SUMMARY:OPEN CALL: COPENHAUSTIN RESIDENCY
DESCRIPTION:CopenhAustin is an annual arts residency exchange program of one queer performance artist/organizer based in Texas and one queer performance artist/organizer based in Denmark. The purpose of this residency program is to support artistic development\, facilitate cultural exchange\, and encourage environmental sustainability practices in the larger arts community. A unique dimension of the call is a commitment to the intersection of LGBTQIA+ issues and environmental sustainability practices. Residents are given the time\, space\, freedom\, and financial support to concentrate on developing their work. This residency program is funded and has a fixed duration of one month. In the inaugural year of the CopenhAustin\, 2024\, the selected residency artists made a total of eight public appearances\, four in Denmark and four in Texas. Both organisations have a key interest in ensuring queer artists’ practice is cared for and represented in the greater performing arts landscape in Denmark. This open call will offer an opportunity to support practice between Aarhus and Copenhagen over a period of 12 months. SUMMARY:Bat Calligraphy: Calligraphy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We will paint the spectograms of bats with ink. A spectogram is the visualization of bat sounds. The spectograms look like lines but vary in their form. The art of calligraphy says that you can practice all your life doing one line. One line is very rich just like the one sound of a bat. While we paint\, we will listen to their screams and see their screams portrayed on a screen. \nThis space will be a concentrated room where we can go deep into a meditative state of repetition.  \nInk and paper will be provided. \n  \nWho can participate? This workshop series is open to everyone. We ask that children are accompanied by an adult carer. DESCRIPTION:Much activity is happening from dusk to the break of dawn. This is the time when the bats come out and hunt for insects. It seems quiet but in the ultrasonic landscape the screams are loud and happening rapidly. If you are attentive you will see fast shadows appearing here and there. Soon\, you will know how and where to spot the creatures of the night.  \nLinh will guide you through a performative walk where she will hand out scores of attentiveness. Together with others\, you let yourself immerse in the land of the bats. \n  \nWho can participate? This workshop series is open to everyone. We ask that children are accompanied by an adult carer. There is a maximum number of participants per workshop\, we therefore ask the you RSVP in good time to secure a space. \nMeeting place: We will meet on the corner of Damhussøen / Roskildevej by The Old Irish Pub at 19.00.
