*MADE TO BREAK
– by choreographer Ruth Rebekka Hansen
A study of the breaking of things
A world of flesh and trash merging
*MADE TO BREAK is a two-year artistic research project by choreographer Ruth Rebekka Hansen exploring destruction, impermanence, decay and transformation. At its core lies a paradox: objects are made to break yet persist as waste, while humans strive for permanence in bodies that inevitably decay. Through movement, performance, installation, sound and visual arts, the project investigates this collision between flesh and objects. *MADE TO BREAK is focused on capturing a mature audience by prioritizing raw and early work-sharing, Q&A, feedback sessions – and by exploring a durational performance format.
*MADE TO BREAK is a part of Qlab – Warehouse9’s lab for artistic development.
In this residency, we investigate the moment leading up to destroying or breaking something. An investigation into tools of destruction and how tension is built through interacting with them. We look at how the presence of different tools and objects affect the space and what happens when a body interacts with the tool, this meeting being the entry point into a movement and character research. Building on Ruth Rebekka’s current choreographic practice, working with archetypes and pop cultural references as well as how to build and break expectations and tension in relation to the audience.
The residency will also pose questions such as: When is a threat or the idea of danger created? How does the relation between a character and an object change? When is the idea or hint of what happens next created? How does the audience react to the sequence and how does the character/performer react to the audience’s reaction?
Together, we explore this setting through movement, choreography, scenography and dramaturgy. We invite audience to a work-sharing in the end followed by a Q&A/feedback session. More info to come.
VANISHING PRODUCTIONS is a performing arts association established in 2026. As the title suggests, VANISHING PRODUCTIONS centers around fleeting moments. Under the artistic leadership of Ruth Rebekka Hansen, the development and production of movement-based works unfold through strong poetic and political visual experiences. Interested in themes of transformation and impermanence through cross-disciplinary settings and set in the space between appearing and disappearing.
