ABOUT

Victoria is an identity-based artist working across video, performance, sound, sculpture, and installation. Their work weaves together elements of Mexican pop culture, traditions, and daily life, serving as both a tribute and exploration of their heritage. Through (video) performance, Victoria explores their Queer and non-binary identity by experimenting with makeup, costumes, and wigs to reimagine the self and invent new modes of being. Their work often centers around memory, home, and love, creating intimate spaces that invite reflection, connection, and tenderness.

Victoria is an artist-in-residence as part of Warehouse9, Museum of Human Achievement and Unlisted Projects international residency exchange initiative called CopenhAustin. Victoria was born along the US/Mexico border and lives and works in Austin, Texas.

COPENHAUSTIN

CopenhAustin is an arts residency exchange program of one queer performance artist/organizer from Texas and one queer performance artist/organizer from Denmark. The purpose of this residency program is to support artistic development, facilitate cultural exchange, and encourage environmental sustainability practices in the larger arts community. A unique dimension of the call is a commitment to the intersection of LGBTQIA+ issues and environmental sustainability practices. Residents are given the time, space, freedom, and financial support to concentrate on developing their work. This residency program is funded and has a fixed duration of one month. In the inaugural year of the CopenhAustin, 2024, the selected residency artists made a total of eight public appearances, four in Denmark and four in Texas. Artists are expected to contribute to public programming, including but not limited to, performances, workshops, and panel discussions.

CopenhAustin is a collaborative program organized by Unlisted Projects, Warehouse9, and The Museum of Human Achievement.

This residency is made possible with support  from: Scan Design Foundation, the Danish Arts Foundation, the Cultural Arts Department in Austin and The City of Copenhagen.
