Animated Sickwalker – Qlab artistic development

Animated Sickwalker is a newly established multidisciplinary performance project. A collaboration between performance artist Kat Staub and animator Sara Koppel. The project is based on Kat’s performative exploration of intergenerational chronic illness and alternative sexuality, merged with hand-drawn 2D animation by Sara Koppel. Kat and Sara’s individual works overlap in their surreal confrontations with inherited dysfunction, both dark and humorously kinky spaces, and their simultaneously experimental and classical storytelling styles. The project holds a deep love for physical craftsmanship and aims, through the cultivation of professional traditions, to highlight the value of artisanal, human-made art in innovative formats.

Kat Staub is a choreographer and performance artist from the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Kat has since 2020 deepened her multidisciplinary method both through her practice with cabaret and drag, and in her hybrid performances that blend unconventional puppetry, dynamic vocal work, and dance. Kat is also a passionate performance educator, with specific experience in teaching teenagers and young adults.

Sara Koppel is an award-winning animator and one of the last artists in Denmark working with hand-drawn animation. With 35 years of experience, Sara has established her practice and film production consisting of emotional psychedelic trips that process family, gender, climate-catastrophic universes, and enticing bodily states. Today, she runs the animation studio Naked Love Film in Copenhagen.

Animated Sickwalker is a part of Qlab – Warehouse9’s lab for artistic development.

Access Information

Warehouse9 has level free entrance to the space and a gender neutral accessible toilet that can be accessed via a certified stairlift.

All events at Warehouse9 are considered “relaxed”. We operate with a safer space policy and ask that you orientate yourself upon entry to the space.
