Emma Castro Møller Steps Down as Co-Director of Warehouse9
After thirteen years of organisational development and curatorial leadership, Emma Castro Møller will be stepping down from her role as Co-Director of Warehouse9, effective 1 April 2026.
Emma joined Warehouse9 in 2013 on a project basis during a period when the organisation operated without regular funding. Working alongside long-term collaborator Jørgen Callesen, she has been a central driving force in building the organisation’s current foundation. Together, they have navigated the organisation through both local and global challenges and successfully stabilised operations. This has resulted in Warehouse9 now receiving operational support from both the City of Copenhagen and the Danish Arts Foundation—a historic milestone for a queer performing arts organisation.
A core element of Emma’s work has been the establishment of strong national and international partnerships, artistic development initiatives, and the curatorial evolution of the IPAF festival. She has been instrumental in bridging local and global networks, securing a prominent international voice for the advocacy of queer dance and performance—most recently through representation in global forums such as ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts) in New York, as well as international exchange programmes like CopenhAustin and the upcoming IPAF festival in collaboration with Dansehallerne.
Throughout her tenure, Emma has been a champion for a more inclusive performing arts industry, working purposefully for better working conditions and increased accessibility within the industry. Furthermore, she played a central role in leading the organisation’s relocation in 2021, when Warehouse9 moved from its iconic home in the Meatpacking District (Kødbyen) to its new centre of gravity in Vanløse.
Emma Castro Møller says: “What an incredible ride! It has been a significant journey to help grow Warehouse9 from its early project-based roots to the solid foundation it has today. For me, deep professional relationships—and friendships—have been the most important compass in navigating this landscape. After securing our move to Vanløse and with three years of operational support confirmed, it feels like the right time to start a new chapter. That next chapter hasn’t been written, but I look forward to exploring new opportunities and bringing my experience in organisational development, national and international collaborations, and curating into play in new contexts. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and I leave with a bag full of the most surreal and brilliant moments that could only have happened at Warehouse9.”
Emma’s departure is planned in alignment with the organisation’s multi-year operational grant, ensuring full continuity for all ongoing projects and partnerships. Jørgen Callesen will continue as Director of Warehouse9 in close collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
Warehouse9 thanks Emma for her dedicated efforts and immense commitment to nurturing queer performance within the performing arts industry over the past 13 years. We look forward to delivering the upcoming IPAF festival together as a strong conclusion and celebration of this chapter.
Ledelsesskifte hos Warehouse9
